A friend of mine wanted to create an app to solve the problem of booking beauty appointments, such as hair, nails, waxing, etc. Most hair and beauty salons still use the old-school method of pen and paper for booking appointments. In today's age, most consumers don't like having to call in to a place to book an appointment. They would rather just pull out an app, and find a time that works for them.
I decided to help out and come up with some ideas for how the app would work. I started by writing out the requirements of what each page would need. I took inspiration from other apps that had been created for a similar (but different) use. From there, I started drawing and wireframing some ideas.
The home screen would house the consumer's favourite places, show popular places, and have the ability to explore.
The main pages would all be on a bottom navigation for easy navigation.
The hamburger menu would be where a viewer could find the about, changelog, privacy policy, etc.
Filters would be found on the top right corner for easy accessibility when searching.
Places could easily be favourited, simply by pressing on the heart next to a salon's name.
In search mode, viewers would be able to quickly see the services offered, rating, location, and profile picture.
When a place is clicked on, all details would be able to be viewed. A description, services offered, contact information, hours, staff, pictures, prices, and reviews. The ability to favourite would still be there, along with booking an appointment.
The appointment booking screen would be a modal that comes from the bottom where a consumer would be able to choose their stylist (if they would like), choose which service(s), the date and time, and how they would like to be reminded of the appointment. Once everything is filled out properly, they would book the appointment, and it would be saved under the "Appointments" tab. All upcoming and past appointments would be able to be viewed in either list or calendar mode.
Finally, the "Account" screen would be where a consumer could edit their profile, change their password, logout, or delete their account.
Unfortunately, the app idea never made it any further than the first stage of design, as the person with the original idea for it went on to do other things. Even though the app never became anything, I still enjoyed the process and experience of having to take just a small idea and build everything by myself from there.
